Mutual Life Africa provides structured credit and financing solutions for individuals, businesses, and commercial enterprises — from personal micro loans to large-scale project finance across Africa.
Mutual Life Africa Credit provides structured lending and financing solutions to individuals, businesses, and commercial enterprises — with products built specifically for the African expat, diaspora, and domestic African market.
Our credit products recognise that financial histories look different for African people. Many have built their wealth and reliability outside of traditional Western banking systems, across multiple currencies, and across borders. We assess credit accordingly — rewarding loyalty, policy tenure, and demonstrated financial responsibility on our own terms.
Whether you are a policyholder leveraging your existing relationship with us, or a new applicant with a strong independent credit profile, there is a credit product built for your situation.
Some of our credit products require a Mutual Life Africa policy as security. Others are open to any qualifying applicant with a clean credit history and strong financial standing — no policy required.
Loans are primarily issued in USD, GBP, EUR, and ZAR. Where a loan is issued in a major currency to a borrower in a local market, the equivalent local currency value is applied — so you borrow in a stable currency and understand exactly what it means in your context.
Each credit product has its own dedicated page covering full eligibility criteria, indicative rates, repayment structures, and application requirements. This page gives you the overview — the product pages give you the full picture.
Mutual Life Africa Credit serves a broad base of borrowers across Africa and the global diaspora community.
Personal credit for Africans living and working abroad — accessing home loans, car finance, micro loans, and more in their earning currency.
Foreign nationals and African citizens living and working across the continent who need structured personal credit denominated in a stable currency.
Small and medium enterprises registered and operating in Africa seeking working capital, vehicle finance, building finance, or growth credit.
African governments, state-owned parastatals, and large commercial entities requiring structured project finance and capital for commercially viable projects.
Some products are available exclusively to Mutual Life Africa policyholders. Others are open to any qualifying applicant. Product-specific pages detail the exact requirements for each loan.
If you hold an active Mutual Life Africa insurance policy, your policy can serve as security for a loan — unlocking faster approvals, better rates, and no requirement for a third-party credit check.
Some Mutual Life Africa credit products are available to qualifying applicants without a policy. Eligibility is based on credit history, financial standing, and the nature of the loan requested.
All Mutual Life Africa credit products are primarily denominated in USD, GBP, EUR, and ZAR. For borrowers in local African markets, loan amounts are calculated using the equivalent local currency value at the time of approval — so you always know what you are borrowing in real terms. Specific currency availability varies by product and is detailed on each product page.
A Mutual Life Africa insurance policy is more than protection — it is a financial instrument. Policyholders can borrow against the value of their active policy without a medical examination, without a third-party credit check, and without surrendering their cover.
Your policy serves as collateral. The loan is approved against the policy's accumulated tenure and assessed cash-equivalent value — meaning your history of consistent premium payments directly determines your borrowing power.
Policy must be active and in good standing · Minimum policy age of 12 months · No outstanding premium arrears · Loan amount assessed against policy tenure and cover value · Cover remains active during the loan period · Policy serves as security — no external credit check required
Your active Mutual Life Africa policy is used as security for the loan. No external assets required. No property valuation needed.
Approval is based on your policy history and tenure — not a third-party credit bureau. Your financial story within the Group is what matters.
Taking a policy-backed loan does not suspend or reduce your insurance cover. Your family remains fully protected throughout the loan period.
The longer and more consistently you have held your policy, the greater the loan value available to you. Reliable premium payment is rewarded.

Acquisition and development financing for large-scale commercial real estate — hotels, retail centres, office parks, industrial developments, and mixed-use commercial properties across Africa.
Financing facilities for African businesses engaged in cross-border trade — import and export financing, trade credit, letters of credit support, and supply chain financing across African markets.
All commercial and project finance is available for Africa-based projects and entities only. Project finance is strictly limited to commercially viable projects — non-commercial, charitable, or speculative applications will not be considered. All transactions are subject to full due diligence, feasibility assessment, and credit committee approval. Contact credit@mutuallifeafrica.com to begin the assessment process.
Personal credit is applied for directly through the app. Business and commercial finance is handled through a dedicated credit assessment process with our team.
