Managing your family members, beneficiaries, payment methods, KYC verification, updating personal details, and account deletion.
Family members are added to your Funeral Cover policy through the app. You can add, manage, and update family members at any time under your policy settings.
Plan limits: Starter — up to 8 members in one country. Extended — up to 10–15 members across countries. Max — up to 10–20 members across countries. Check your specific plan for exact limits.
A beneficiary is the person who receives the payout when a claim is made. At least one beneficiary must be nominated when purchasing a policy. You can nominate more than one and specify the percentage split between them.
Beneficiaries can be changed at any time through the app under your policy settings. There is no limit on how often you can update them.
Important: If your beneficiary passes away before you, update your beneficiary details immediately in the app. Failure to do so can significantly complicate and delay any future claim.
No benefit will be paid to a beneficiary found to have caused or contributed to the insured's death. Beneficiary payouts are also subject to Mutual Life Africa's right of first claim for any outstanding debt owed to Group entities.
Yes. You can nominate a child or any person under 18 as a beneficiary. However, because minors cannot legally receive large financial payouts directly, a legal guardian must be designated to receive and manage the benefit on the minor's behalf.
When nominating a minor, specify the legal guardian who will receive the payout. This person should be a trusted adult — typically the other parent, a close relative, or a legal appointee. The guardian's details must be included in your policy settings.
All personal details — name, address, phone number, country of residence, email, and payment information — can be updated through the app under your profile settings.
Keeping your details current is important. An outdated address or phone number means you may not receive critical notifications about premium due dates, policy status changes, or claims updates. Failure to receive these notifications does not alter any policy timelines or obligations.
Update your details anytime in the app to ensure you never miss a critical notification.
Open appMutual Life Africa accepts payments via PayPal and PayFast. The available method depends on your location and the currency of your policy.
All premiums are charged monthly. Annual payment is not currently available. Your payment method is set up during the purchase flow and can be updated through your account settings in the app.
Yes. A third party — such as a family member, employer, or any other person — may pay your premium on your behalf. This is common in families where one member manages finances for others.
For a third party to pay your premiums, their payment method must be registered and verified on your account. Contact support@mutuallifeafrica.com for guidance on setting this up correctly.
Premium payment by a third party does not change policy ownership. The policy belongs to the policyholder. The third party has no rights over the policy, its claims, or its proceeds.
KYC stands for Know Your Customer. It is a legal requirement under international financial services regulations and is required for all Mutual Life Africa policyholders. KYC verification protects you against identity fraud and ensures your policy is legally valid.
KYC status on your account will show as Pending, Verified, or Rejected. A rejected status does not automatically cancel your policy but may restrict certain features. Contact support@mutuallifeafrica.com if your KYC is rejected and you believe this is in error.
You may request account deletion at any time. Submit your request through the app or contact privacy@mutuallifeafrica.com directly.
Please note that certain data is retained for regulatory compliance purposes even after account deletion — specifically, records related to insurance policies, claims, and financial transactions. This is a legal requirement under applicable international data protection and financial services laws, not a discretionary policy. Full details are in our Privacy Policy at app.mutuallifeafrica.com.
Before requesting deletion — ensure any active policies are cancelled, any pending claims are resolved, and any outstanding premiums are settled. Outstanding financial obligations survive account deletion.
Mutual Life Africa offers life and funeral cover to expats, locals, diasporas, and foreign nationals living and working in foreign countries and across Africa.
